My name is Caitlin Newago (Binesiikwens.) I am a member of the Bad River Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians, and am from the Oneida Nation of WI as well (I’m a Powless on my maternal side.) I’m a big ol crybaby Cancer ♋️ with a Libra moon & ascendant! I started as an apprentice with RCTC officially just a couple months ago. My artistic style is heavily influenced by historical Anishinaabe beadwork, floral designs, and quillwork. My works are comprised of Ojibwe floral designs using historical mediums including birchbark and porcupine quills. I also take these designs and turn them into digital artwork. I aim to keep the designs traditional, but to create modern work with contemporary flair. I create art that is reflective of my culture and the way that it continues to be preserved, practiced, and adapts to changing times. I aim to translate this into tattooing as well. I’ve wanted to tattoo since I was a little girl, and I’m incredibly grateful to be a part of this safe, ethical, and inclusive collective! I look forward to learning and growing as an artist by learning from the best Miigwech!
